ISCA-SAC: 2nd Mentoring - Mentors announced

The Student Advisory Committee of the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA-SAC) is pleased to announce that we are planning to hold the 2nd Mentoring Event in 2020! After a successful first edition at Interspeech 2019, we would like to establish this event in upcoming years.
The event gives PhD students the opportunity to engage in a discussion with early-career and senior researchers from academia and industry. ISCA-SAC aims at providing a warm environment for
discussing questions concerning a variety of topics, such as research in academia and industry, equal opportunities, publishing, professional development.
This year, the event will take place virtually during Interspeech 2020 in Shanghai.
The event is planned in a round table format with two mentors and 6-8 PhD students per table. Each table will have an assigned topic and the mentors will be chosen and invited accordingly.

2. ) How to get a PhD with children
3. ) PhD topic: focus and passion
4. ) Time management for PhD students
5. ) How to do research in academia vs. industry
6. ) Overcoming adversity and finding your balance

Hello, Goodbye!

It is a new season of ISCA's Student Advisory Committee (SAC) and we would like to thank our outgoing and welcome our incoming members, as well as report on some restructuring of the SAC board.
We say goodbye to our volunteers Dimosthenis Kontogiorgos (KTH, Sweden), Chitralekha Gupta (National University of Singapore), and Midia Yousefi (University of Texas at Dallas, USA). Thank you very much for your work in the SAC!
Yaru Wu (MoDyCo-CNRS/LPP-CNRS, France) and Harish-Chandra Dubey (Microsoft, USA) graduated and retire from their volunteer positions, as well, but remain active as SAC alumni. Thank you for staying on board!
We welcome our new volunteers Thomas Rolland (INESC-ID, Portugal), Francisco Teixeira, Mariana Julião, Catarina Botelho (all INESC-ID & IST-University of Lisbon, Portugal), William Brannon (MIT, USA), and Nils Westhausen (University of Oldenburg, Germany). We look forward to working with you!
On the SAC board, Iona Gessinger (Saarland University, Germany) takes over the role of SAC's general coordinator from Berrak Sisman (National University of Singapore), who remains an advisor to the SAC board. Gabriel Mittag (Technische Universität Berlin) succeeds Kätlin Aare (University of Tartu, Estonia) as media coordinator.

The Student Advisory Committee of the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA-SAC) is pleased to announce the 1st Mentoring Event of SAC! This event gives doctoral candidates the opportunity to engage with fresh PhD graduates and established experts. This is SAC’s first attempt to engage with SAC Alumni and we are very excited!
Mentoring aims to provide a warm environment for discussing problems involving academia vs industry, woman in science, stress management, professional development, etc. This event will be with round tables, each table will have an expert (from academia or industry), 1-2 PhD graduates, and 6-8 PhD students. Each table will have an assigned topic and the experts will be chosen and invited accordingly. The event will be held during one of the normal session times (= 1.5 hours). Refreshments will be provided.

This event gives doctoral candidates the opportunity to present and discuss their research with a panel of experts. The discussion includes feedback on the evolution and progress of their research. It helps them to identify a road-map toward refining their thesis. Doctoral students from speech-related disciplines participating in Interspeech 2019 are invited to apply. Participants will be selected based on their submitted abstracts.

You are welcome to submit questions to be asked from the expert panel. A selection of the submitted questions will be asked from the panel of experts. Please keep in mind that the experts and the audience are coming from different fields, so field specific and technical questions are less likely to be presented to the panel. To submit your questions, we ask you to fill in this form.

This year, we are pleased to announce that ISCA-SAC will host three student events at Interspeech 2019 in Graz, Austria. Among the events are two traditional ones: Students Meet Experts (SME) and Doctoral Consortium. Additionally, this year we are hosting the new Mentoring event, which aims at bringing together SAC alumni, students and experts.
If you are interested, please register for SME and Mentoring events to secure a spot. For both events, the capacity is limited by the room size.
